  • Here are the meanings of all the six verses of this ghazal as I understand them. In this TV drama only four verses are presented but actually they are six. This translation is in response to the request by hchatrath.

The verses sung in this YouTube version are in this order:

    1, 3, 4 and 6.

  • @shameghazal The singer is Mr. Vinod Sehgal.

  • Verse 1

If I have a few more days to live, I have decided to do something different. The poet has not clearly stated his intention, he may completely transform his life in preparation to the next world or he may abandon his native land and go to a foreign place. He has left all this to the speculation of the reader.

  • Verse 2

One cannot imagine any fire hotter than the hell fire. But Ghalib says that the fire of his sad heart is a lot more intense and hotter than the hell fire.

  • Verse 3

Though the beloved has been angry with me several times before, yet the things always worked out and we were on speaking terms again. But this time his anger is of different nature and I don't think he will be friends again.

  • Verse 4

"Nama bar": letter carrier; messenger "Paigham": message "Zubani": oral; verbal

This verse is like a scene in a drama. The messenger has delivered the letter but he is still standing and looking at my face. That shows that he has some oral message also, but he is hesitant to reveal it because it is so tormenting and heart breaking.

  • Verse 5

"Qata-e-ammar": one who finishes lives "Balaay aasmani": the beloved "Najoom": stars

Meaning: It is often thought that some stars are evil and when they affect people they bring about their death. But my beloved is more dangerous and deadly than these abominable stars.

  • Verse 6

Ghalib recalls all the sorrows and miseries during his life time. The only thing left is the misery of sudden death. This type of death is considered the most painful as one is unable to say anything or listen to anybody.

  • I know it is very hard to translate these masterpieces to other languages but it will be great service to if someone who really understand this translates this to ENGLISH. Thanks in advance.

  • bahut bahut bahut shukriya for this amazing song.. muddat se talassh raha tha..

  • singer is Vinod Sehgal

  • i think it means

if it is destined by god that I have only a few more days of life left, I have decided to do things My way.

The last stanza means " I have faced all kinds of evil in my lifetime and have overcome it, now only one last evil called death is remaining, I will overcome that too"
