About The Kichiro Film Project
The Kichiro film project is a graduation thesis film of the Advanced Diploma in Film Production (ADFP) course at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore. The 20min film was shot entirely on high-end 35mm film.
This film was one of the biggest student films to be shot in Singapore to-date (with a cast and crew of around 80!). This project brought together some of the best talents and resources from both the student community as well as industry professionals. With wardrobe and props from MediaCorp Studios, special effects makeup from The School of Makeup and Special Cosmetic Effects Pte. Ltd. (SCE); and firearms and stunts from The Stunt Production.
Many people had said that we were probably biting off more than we could chew. We, however, feel that if we as young Singaporean filmmakers do not push the limits and produce films that are as close to industry standard both in terms of scale as well as quality. How then are we to instil confidence and attract potential financiers or investors?
My personal philosophy as a Producer is not to let a "lack of resources" ever become an excuse to stifle creativity. If it's got to be done in a certain way to look believable or to carry the story forward, it's got to be done. Of course, every effort should be made to do it in the most innovative, safe and most importantly, cost-effective way without ending up looking "cheesy".
Kichiro has a very compelling storyline with an important message that is intended to be a "wake-up call" to parents. It paints the worst-case scenario that could ever happen. This will hopefully jolt parents into perhaps trying harder to spend more quality time with their children and to actually take an interest in what they're up to. Kichiro is set to be the first ultra-violent and probably the most graphic student film ever made in Singapore!
The film industry is by nature a highly competitive one and the only way to succeed is to get noticed (for the right reasons of course). Our filmmaking strategy is not to just make good films but also to make groundbreaking, news-making (controversial or not) and highly visible films that are believable.
Singapore has been perceived as having a conservative, strictly censored and sterile film industry. Times have changed, censorship guidelines have been relaxed and filmmakers are now given somewhat greater creative freedom (although politically themed films are still a taboo). The world needs to know. Singapore needs to produce good quality yet edgy films that help break this misconception and that attain international recognition. We hope that Kichiro will be a step in that direction.
Are YOU ready to experience Kichiro for yourself?

Good film, but it's just too bad that this film is barred from DVD/VCD release because of it's "R21" rating.
