After WWII, Americans were intent on looking to the future to see what was possible, rather than looking back at the horrors of the war. Auto manufacturers were doing the same. Thus, the Firebird concept cars were built to show what might be possible in cars of the future. Greg Wallace, manager of GM's Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, Mich., introduces us to these jet aircraft-inspired vehicles.
i always wonder: if they can make a working prototype, why don't they make the whole line instead of blowing up the idea???

I think the Firebird III appears at the ending of Speed Raccer original anime scene but I'm not sure iowan2005lzin has uploaded a version of the endiong with good quality.Despite that he claims that the same classic cars from ending are displayed in TOYOTA musium and the ending picture shows detail of them so I doubt it's the firebird III cause it's in Heritage Center

the Speed Racer Mach 5 must've been inspired by the Firebird I, II, and III. i'm just glad the Firebirds never looked like either one
