'You don't get jazz, It gets you'
I strongly believe in this idea.

i didn't understand bebop untill i really got into jazz and listened to all styles, from simple to complex. I love all the styles, but bebop for me is the ultimate music.

2. Also Vincent Herring states that you should progress to Bebop through earlier Jazz recordings. Well if you do that you just might get to love New orleans, Swing so much that you would hate Bebop.
BEBOP IS NO LOVE CHILD OF JAZZ said Charlie Parker and he was right. Bop is Jazz, but the Rhythmic Phrasing is totally differen't. Eighth notes are even and the Rhythm follows the melodic line. The only way to get into bop is to listen to it - try the string Albums first Parker/Brown/Adderley etc

I don't agree with Billy's statement that most of the old musicians accepted Bop. The only one I know was Coleman Hawkins. Bird and Diz did play in groups with traditional musicians in the early 40s but they did'nt influence them. There was a civil war between the 'Moldy figs' and 'Modernists'. Have none of you heard the Battle of the band recordings of the 1940s between the New orleans and bop schools organised by Rudi Blesh and Barry Ulanov.

@ZupraVisor there are some serious "smooth jazz" musicians like George Benson, Fourplay, Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton and even Chick Corea

3:33 OMG LOL , smooth jazz xDD
The kid's question @10:13 was a really great question. Really tough to answer in a small amount of time.

@warsd4 But just asking the question, and interacting with these musicians, and hearing the music live, probably changed this kid's life.
