Me playing the Gentle Giant song, Cogs in Cogs from the The Power and the Glory album.

For the gear heads, I'm playing a 1987 Ibanez SR-885LE with SGD Lutherie Neo J pickups, passive.

  • so david, do you think anyone has ever touched what GG accomplished musically? Besides Zappa?

  • @TadRapidly That's a good question! King Crimson comes to mind. But no one is like GG.

  • Nice .I really like how Your Neo-Pickup HAndles the pick Sound.

New people will start Asking For videos with fingers etc etc and You will not find The time To make Them for a while .. ;-) .

  • Thanks! This wasn't really intended as a pickup demo... I'm going to do those soon.

Also, I should have mentioned that was using just the neck pickup, in case anyone was wondering.

  • @DavidRavenMoon Gentle King Frank Zappa haha. I reckon a few songs from Camels - MoonMadness have a Gentle Giant vibe. In terms of musicallity, yeah DavidRavenMoon's right 'no one is like GG' haha.

  • Wow, that´s a tough one!! Good job!

  • @TadRapidly Why yes, yes there is. Indeed I propose that there is a band on par with the genius of Zappa and GG who have covered as much musical territory as either Zappa or GG. They are called Cardiacs. Their sound takes a while to acclimatise to (as did GG for me). Here's a few recommended vids/tunes...

  • Just listen to this bass and imagine the guy playing AND singing. It's simply an outrage! How can somebody do this? And what is really curious about GG (and Yes too) is that the backing vocals are really complex.

  • @TadRapidly Focus did touched on some of the same ground with some pretty amazing stuff. Not as much discord and insanity as Gentle Giant, but definitely of the same merit, in my opinion.

  • excellent bravo i love this band for ever,by the way telle me if you need me i play drums,in many way may way

    thanx.

  • I just cannot get over how good this band was.

  • @DavidRavenMoon GG harmonic sensibilities trump 'em all IMO ('cept for FZ, of course). Yeah, Crimson changed everything for me in the 80s-truly a profound evolution there! Blessings, brother. many many blessings.

  • Nice one

    pickups sounds very nice!
