I actually think it would be awesome if artists actually did little instructional shorts like this for their own songs and posted them out here. It would give people a lot of insight into their style, and you'd also get to learn how complex some of their stuff really is.

I think it's a Line 6 Variax(e?) guitar. It has a selector to set what tone it gives through the pickup, I know that much. For instance, he can set it to 12-string mode and it'll sound like a twelve string :) Hope that helps. I believe he says the name of it in his JTR vid.
