HCBTO Chapter Six [part two]

I was so nervous for our game, even though we didn't really know if it was really that important. But then again, I mean, it has to be right? I needed to stop stressing. I grabbed my books from my locker and turned to see Kayla and Laura walking over. Lovely, I sarcastically thought. I grabbed my bag and turned the other direction.
Laura: "Oh Ria!"
Me: "Damn it," I mumbled.
Me: "Hi Laura."
Kayla: "Hey, I heard about your big game on Saturday."
Me: "What?"
Laura: "Oh don't worry, your boys didn't tell us."
Me: "Then who did?"
Kayla: "Well, we were kind of listening to your conversation last night."
Laura: "Yeah, I don't think you should tell secrets at the malls food court."
Me: "Whatever."
Kayla: "Oh by the way, we told the whole school."
I walked away, cuss words were the only things on my mind. Everyone was telling me how excited they were to see us play. Cuss words in other languages flew threw my head. I couldn't believe that Kayla was seriously doing this! I was walking over to our usual lunch table, and no one was smiling. Honestly, I expected one of the guys to be smiling, but no one.
Me: "I know."
Makayla: "I cannot believe this!"
Pieper: "Do you know who said it?"
Me: "None of us."
Parker: "See you guys don't have to be mad at us!"
Pieper: "Then who?"
Me: "Kayla and Laura, they listened in on our conversation at the mall."
Pieper: "Bitchs, I swear when I get a hold of them-"
Me: "No."
Pieper: "What?"
Me: "No. Your not going to do anything."
Pieper: "What?"
Makayla: "Why not?"
Me: "Don't let them get to you."
Jordan: "What the hell?"
Me: "Focus on the game and not on everything else."
Makayla: "She's right."
Me: "It's a once in a lifetime chance, lets not screw this up."
Pieper: "Your right."
Me: "I've already screwed up enough." I mumbled under my breath.
Parker: "Babe, what have you screwed up?"
Pieper's eyes got big when she heard Parker say that. I shook my head and went back onto eating. Parker looked really confused and I tried to act as if I mysefl didn't know what was going on. I really need to start taking my own advice. 'Forget everything else and focus on the game.' Why couldn't I do that? It was during math class when I came up with an amazing play for Saturday's game. When the bell rung, I jumped out of my desk and ran over to Makayla.
Makayla: "You okay sweetie?"
Me: "Makayla, I came up with the most amazing play ever!"
Makayla: "Mhmm, cool, you should submit it to broadway."
Me: "NOT THAT PLAY!"
Makayla: "Oh, did you mean soccer?"
Me: "NO SHIT SHERLOCK!"
Makayla: "Sorry!"
Explaining all the geometry was pretty simple with Makayla. But for the rest of the group it was quite complicated. Eventually, after what seemed like an hour or two, they understood. They loved the play, we made a few changes here and there and it was bound to work. We had the guys help us after school practice it. The next practice we introduced it to coach Randall.
Me: "So what do you think?"
Coach: "No."
Pieper: "What!?"
Coach: "Look, we all know about how important this game is. It's a good play but we can't teach it to our forwards in time."
Makayla: "Then let the three of us do it!"
Coach: "Then who will play D?"
Me: "We can switch back, they're good defenders too!"
Coach: "I'm sorry ladies we just can't."
Me, Makayla, and Pieper: "BUT!"
Coach: "No, now go run with the rest of your team."
Pieper: "This is f*cked up man!"
Makayla: "I know, what the hell, it would be perfect!"
Me: "It's not like we would do this if we knew it would fail."
Pieper: "This is stupid."
Me: "I know, I know."
I was so mad, I was practically in tears. I held my tears back till I got in Parker's dads car, I knew if people saw me crying they'd think I'm a loser. But this was a once in a lifetime chance, the one possible way we could win, like really win. If that makes any sense? I got into the car and Parker sat right beside me. I curled up in his arms and started to cry. The sound of his voice started to calm me down. I wasn't crying histaricaly, as if I was some little kid who just fell off a bike. I was tearing up. I was just tearing up. This hurts, honestly, when he picks the three of us as captains, you'd expect that he'd trust us. Right?
No one knew I cried, I didn't want my best friend to think I was immature. I was just hurt, by my coach. I remember looking over at Kat as he said no, because she looked like she wanted to practice the play, but hes the boss. Which, honestly, seemed...weird. Usually he'll do whatever Kat would say, but for some reason, Kat didn't say anything? Now, I was starting to double think what Kat was thinking.
