Here's the math:
1 mile= 5280 feet, 1 yard=3 feet, 5280 feet/3 feet=1760 yards, 1760 yards/2=880 yards. So 500 yards is not "just shy of half a mile", but when you're crawling through that much excrement, it feels longer. Whether or not he really crawled half a mile or not, he still crawled through tons upon tons of shit to escape wrongful imprisonment, and that takes guts. Go Andy!
