Because that is what the very women in their society were and perhaps that is also why so many had to remain stuck being the mother of the children and wife to the husband, the man's property. How much has this changed in the 21st century? The famous men hiding the intelligent slaves? The famous women not knowing how to deliver more uncomfortable truth and HAARP unaccounted for.

yes, the ancient hellenes did INVENT the goddess of wisdom and war and made her a woman but also infered that she was the ideal woman just as aphrodite was the perfect feminine woman of beauty. nevertheless, these were IDEAL women but the reality is quite different. just as men have their flaws which are very many, women have flaws as well and often do not even notice them.

for your information the war in europe was OVER when the atomic bombs were finally tested and ready for use. as President truman said it best, when you are dealing with a BEAST you must treat him as a BEAST. the japanese during world war 2 were BEASTS. ever heard of the rape of nanking? biological weapons testing on Koreans perpetrated by the japanese? the execution of American prisoners of war by the japanese? the ritual MURDER of millions of asians in work camps by the japanese?

Why weren't these bombs dropped in Germany were the root of the problem was (the nazis). Why chose the other side of the world, a seismic area of the world to negate the WW2? A few ships destroyed in Pearl Harbour by soldiers versus soldiers lead to mass murder of civilians in Japan. Then nowadays when NY is " movingly attacked" civilians in Afghanistan have to pay the prize yet again. Illegal means of war is what kill people too often, and politicians too rarely.

The search for truth can only include a very small group of people whose truth never speak the people's truth. Instead people become part of the scheme of a greater lie which NEVER includes hope for an end and meaningful lives for people.
What if politicians could not see the difference between movies and real people dying? Would this truth be part of a peace resolution at the United Nations? Or should this remain buried in the mass of people divided in tribes of societarians versus terrorists.

yancybutler, I quite agree with your comment, Ms Morisette's lyrics are always incredible, and her choice of words well chosen.

STG, do you think the REAL Socrates would have rebuked so harshly some women because they had nothing he wanted to hear or would he have engaged in a meaningful dialogue trying to point out where the lag was. Therefore, including those who had nothing to say (according to you) and making them part of a constructive dialogue about truth which could improve greatly everybody's condition, the human and humane condition.

@PauleQueenie as a matter OF FACT , yes the ancient Socrates would have dismissed women's argiments just as handedly because the ancient hellenes thought very little of women and most especially with their insipid, ridiculous and un-intelligent arguments just as morisete's arguments. There is a FUNDAMENTAL FACT that Nature through God's divine wisdom that EVERYONE born must have a Mother. It is a matter of facts that Socrates was a philosopher of great talent. His views in trying to educate the youth with open mindedness lead to his own arrest and death. The hellenists were NOT sexist, many of their gods, included GODDESSES which they publicly idolated.
It is not my responsibility if thereby there is NO future for mankind. Socrates did not trade his philosophical opinions for cheap trade in his own time. That is what narrow mindedness does also in the 21st century, repeat.

@PauleQueenie you have a very naive view of the ancient hellenes and the REALITY is they were much like US. greedy, self absorbed, arrogant, vain and extremely hubristic and their civilization did NOT last. miss morisete is just as ignorant, unenlightened and stupid as they were and as such is a fool. however, the biggest FOOLS are those who follow her views and parrot them as the 'truth'.
