From my experience of doing 2 ride-alongs during my application process to the special constabulary, it was well worth it, and gave me a true insight into the work of the police. I was made to feel very welcome, and found every officer I spoke to was friendly and willing to answer any questions.
Try it, even just for a few hours, it may drastically change your view on policing for the better :)
@bevatc try speaking to the police when their actions arent being noticed.
