The Palmetto Ride High School Wind Ensemble playing España Cañi. This is the 2009 District competition. The band got a Superior on España Cañi. The overall rating for the three songs and sight reading was a superior.

Directed by Mr. William Reaney.

I play First Horn on this song. I'm in the second row, first chair.

  • Dear mother of God, how on Earth did you get a 'Superior'? Were the judges both blind and deaf to not be able to tell that you all ignored the tempo markings and dragged the song 'til it dried up and became stuck in the mud? Nothing you have played is impressive once you cut the tempo like that. Anybody could play that song as slow as you did.

  • @BlackFluteChance We Followed through with what the tempo markings said. It may be a different arrangement from what you've listened to. We've had many different instructors and professional musician come in to give advice, they all said do it pretty much this way. I will admit that the temo changes weren't great enough.

  • This is like not the real Espana Cani, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!!!!!!!!!?

  • @LillianYunoki1

Espana Cani thats what it is. Just because it has the same title doesnt mean its the same arrangement.

  • you guys were awesome! thanks for putting it on here cuz i wanted to hear what you guys were playing. um did you play bari sax on any of the songs or just french horn?? congrats on superiors!!

  • Just Horn. I only play Bari for Jazz and Allcounty

  • The tempo just messes things up...

  • We're playing this in 7th & 8th grade band. I play the first chair bassoon >:D

  • Whats up with the tempo? My teacher would make sure we would get it right..trust me..

  • @GuyItalian You probably had a different composition of it because the original song is so much harder. The tempo is probably 164. That's not slow. The tempo this band was playing was way too damn slow. So, your band was probably taking it the same tempo this band was was because your band couldn't handle taking it any faster. And like I said before, you were probably playing a different version of it.

  • Um... I play this and im in 6th grade.... its easy as fudge :P D D D D-D Eb Eb Eb. And this is the same tempo we do...

  • You guys did pretty well. There was just some spots where some brass members stuck out a big. I do agree that the tempo is a bit too slow. This must not be the version that I played in middle school. But it's still good. What grade were these players?

  • Playing exact same thing for 6th grade also Afterburn, Star Spangled Banner, Land of Liberty and In the Wake of Spring. EZ PZ. The songs are easy unlike the "X" Brigade which i did for 5th grade.

  • dam when we played this we played it faster not this slow

  • From what this sounds like, this is the same version that we are playing (I think). Our version that we're playing sounds very much alike. Very nice though.

  • I have to agree that the tempos are not there. And regardless of the arrangement, music soul should always be preserved when interpreting. This one lacked the passion and strength which are characteristic of the Paso Doble. Just imagine a dancer trying to interpret your version.

    I Appreciate the effort though.
