The Merchant of Venice Trailer- Modernised

A Shakespearean story turns modern :D

This is a quick synopsis of the story of the Merchant of Venice and my version (modernised). I used many clips of different movies and Youtube videos to create this. I spent many hours on it over the weekend and this is what I got! :D


Shortened Original Plot - A young man called Bassanio wants to get to a lady called Portia who is desired by many men in the world. She is fair and kind. He asks to borrow money from his best friend Antonio (the merchant of venice). But Antonio's money is on 3 or 4 ships out as sea. Antonio and Bassanio ask a rich Jewish moneylender called Shylock. Shylock agrees to lend them money but under 1 condition- if Antonio can't pay Shylock back in 3 months no interest then he is allowed to take 1 pound of his flesh, his heart. Antonio agrees even though Bassanio doesn't want him too because it's too risky. Shylock lends Antonio 3000 ducats (currency) and Bassanio successfully reaches Portia.

Suddenly Antonio's ships were reported lost so Antonio had no money left and couldn't repay Shylock. Shylock took this to court and was prepared to take out Antonio's heart. The judge then found a flaw in their contract, he is allowed to take Antonio's heart but he isn't allowed to drop any blood. Shylock loses and was forced to convert to a Christian. Half his wealth went to Antonio and the other half when to the council of Venice.
In the end Antonio's ships returned to Venice and everybody lives happily ever after! Except Shylock....

Modern Plot: In my version, it is set in 2018 and the world is divided in to 4 sections/ nations, the 1st nation (as white people), 2nd nation (as Arab or Jewish people), 3rd nation (Asian people) and 4th nation (black people, no racism meant). The 1st nation (Antonio and Bassanio) wants to get to Mars first which is what men all around the world desire to. They need to beat the 3rd nation (other Princes who tried to have Portia) but don't have enough money. They ask the 2nd nation (Shylock) for money to borrow. They agree but the deal is- if they cannot pay them back within 1 year then the 2nd nation will declare war on the 1st nation, no interest. Because the 1st nation was so desperate to get to Mars first, they agreed to the dangerous deal.

6 months on the 1st nation lost connection to their astronauts and the space ship was worth the money they borrowed. It seemed all hope was lost.

6 months on the 2nd nation fired their first nuclear missiles into the 1st nation, the war has began. The 3rd and 4th nation united to help the 1st nation as the 2nd nation wanted to take over the world. Eventually they defeated the 2nd nation and 2 months on after the war their astronauts were not lost, they returned safely, just a bit late.
