Fifth of eight videos on How to Make a Didgeridoo.
This video follows on from cutting the wood in half and focusses on hollowing the didge prior to putting it back together.
I had myself filmed making a couple of didgeridoos using the split wood technique. By filming the process from beginning to end I aim to share some of the knowledge and experience I have learnt over recent years. In turn this will hopefully help others to make their own instrument.
For more information on all things didge, please visit my website: http://www.copperman.co.uk/

  • It would probably work though it may not last long and burn out, also depends on the wood - if the wood is hard and dense it takes more out of the grinder than if it's a softer wood i.e Yew vs Silver Birch.

  • Thanks for the comment. If it was completely smooth the sound would move down the bore regularly. It is the irregularity (caused originally by termites) that gives each instrument its unique sound. The uneven bore affects the way the wave of air resonates helping to create a rich multi layered harmonic sound. Many of the cheap mass produced teak didges you see on the market are drilled straight through and the sound is absolutely dreadfull and the didge useless.

  • Would a 750Watt angler grinder do the job ok?

  • why dont you want a completely smooth bore?
