He didn't need a front sight for this test. The HK416 doesn't have a fixed front sight.

From watching the obvious poor weapon handling, I would guess mishandling etc and magazine problems caused it to jam. The best rifle design is only as strong as the mechanism that feeds it. It looked like they were using cheap surplus mags...if only the military would step up and get good mags half of the bad reputation the M16 family has would go away.
