exclusive cam live airport camera record video A FedEx Corp cargo plane caught in a gust of wind crashed and burst into flames as it landed at Narita international airport on Monday, closing the main runway at the busy gateway to Tokyo.

The longest runway of two at the airport was closed, a Narita airport spokesman said, and airlines said some flights had been diverted to other airports from Narita, the main international airport for the Japanese capital.

Asahi TV said the two crew on the plane had been killed in the crash but Kyodo news agency said the pilot and copilot were pulled from the plane unconscious and in a critical condition.

"We have information that strong winds caused the plane to divert from the runway," a Narita Airport spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said the plane was a FedEx cargo flight from Guangzhou, China and a FedEx logo was clearly visible on the upturned remains of the aircraft.

The plane landed hard, tipped onto its left wing and burst into flames, video of the crash on public broadcaster NHK showed.

A bright orange fireball and black billowing smoke engulfed the plane as it flipped and skidded off the runway.

Firefighters sprayed foam onto the broken remains of the plane with its wheels in the air as efforts were made to rescue the crew.

Narita airport said the plane was an MD-11, a freighter made by McDonnell Douglas, part of Boeing Co.

A spokesman for Japan Airlines Corp (JAL), Japan's main international airline, said some arriving flights had been diverted to Tokyo's Haneda airport and airports in Nagoya and Kansai, near Osaka.

An All Nippon Airways (ANA) spokesman said the airline stopped check-in at Narita for 10 international flights, including those to New York, Washington and London.

FedEx officials in Japan confirmed it was their company's flight but said they were still checking other information.

Japan's meteorological agency had issued an advisory of gales for the area around the airport.

  • Two lives were lost in this crash. The pilot: Kevin Mosley. And the co-pilot: Anthony Pino. Kevin Mosley was from Hillsboro, Oregon. Mr. Pino lived in San Antonio, Texas right across the street from me. He was my best friend's father and an amazing and generous person. While you asses joked about losing your packages, Donna, Nick, Tim, and Stephen Pino mourned the loss of a beloved husband and father. I hope you're proud of yourselves. R.I.P. Mr. Pino, you are still missed.

  • may they rest in peace, infinite respect to those trying to put down these beast of machines safely at airports to save the lives of others but sacrificing their own, instead of bailing on a flying plane over innocent people, rest in peace

  • You can always get a new iphone so you can stick it up in your ass you stupid fuck!!!

  • American crappy technology

  • @nickeldmb RIP my iphone :( it was on my carryon. I still remember the screams of horror from my mother as they pulled the still smoking, blackened, cracked thing from the wreckage. I looked into the screen, and it looked back into my eyes, and for one single moment, we shared wifi together, untill it drifted into nothingness and died in my arms.

    RIP iphone, my sweet baby.

  • md11's bite hard, do not taunt the beast. RIP gents.

  • i cant understand third engine aerodynamic on these planes.Interesting.

  • That's why my stuff from eBay never arrived......

  • Look closely. The plane almost nose-dived into the runway then tried to pull up but was too late.

  • @SkyBird1970

Ya I can't imagine what is going through their minds

  • RIP. Always have respect for pilots who successfully take off and land with millions and million of passengers/lives every second all around the globe. Most of these immature fools do not have respect for human beings to begin with. Try reading comment from some Air Crash Investigation and you will notice how people make jokes about crashes where hundreds of lives were lost and STILL no respect.
