The 2004-2005 iMac G5s has a know glitchy video and power component controller on the logic board. http://www.macusersguide.com/2009/04/the-imac-g5s-glitchy-video-and-power-com... Most At the time Apple commented that the affected systems have serial numbers falling within one of these 4 five-digit ranges: CK435-CK522, QP435-QP522, W8435-W8522 and YD435-YD522. Since the iMac G5's that experience this problem or fail now are out of warranty at this point I decided to take two donor iMacs units experiencing different problems and make one working iMac G5. I will show you how to take a part an iMac G5 and remove a working power supply and re-installing it into an iMac G5 with a good graphics card. Also featured in this video will be step-by-step instructions on how to open and close an iMac and install a hard drive and RAM.

  • My G5 imac has started having difficulty when I boot up. The normal grey image appears but it now shakes and the pixels are blotchy. I have done the control, command, P and R when I boot and that does help. But I still need to do it each tile I start the mac. Several times ! I have opened the back and cleaned it out and checked the power source. Any ideas ? Thanks Ciara

  • @msciara This model of G5 has a know power or video issue affecting the power/video controller on the motherboard. Users report one or the other going bad; sometimes both. The video issue shows up in a variety of ways and there isn't really a "easy" fix for it. The video card is an integrated component and unless you know what you are doing not a good idea to mess with.

  • If you press the restart button does the hard drive erase anything.....or do you lose any information? also if your imac doesn't turn on and the green light in the back turns on does the restart button fix it? please get back to me as soon as possible,. thank you.

  • The restart or SMC on the logic board has nothing to do with erasing information on your hard drive. However, Apple does not recommend that you press the reset button multiple times. Press once with the power cable out and restart. I am posting a comment below regarding the LEDs.

  • HELP!!!!!!!!!!!.i dont have or cant find the slot for airport extreme card ..do you think the previous owner took it out or it doesnt come with it..i have imac g5 17" 2.0

  • My iMac G5 has the serial # QP522 as in the comments above. It will just shut down , as if someone pulled the plug. Is this a bad power supply, or something on the logic board? Any help is appreciated.

  • @xkayosx now i know how computer illiterate some of you mac users are

    no offense =^3

Pressing the Restart button will just quickly the mac of but also turn it back on doing no harm to the hard drive. think of it as the Emergency button to press when your mac starts to mess up.

  • how about doing a video on replacing integrated video card ....
