@opsimathics I thought the same thing when I saw him doing that. I still don't know why he didn't cut the clear film from the decal first before applying it to the model. I also noticed he didn't spray the model with at least a semi-gloss coat prior to putting the decals on. He just applied decals to the flat finish. ???

someone experienced please tell me how using an exacto knife over the applied decals doesn't ruin the paintjob.

If that show was in England, everyone would be touching everything while saying "Is it delicate?!?!... *snap*... Oh, That's stupid!".

I wonder if Mr. Model Expo Visitor guy @ 2:31 dresses like Gilligan on purpose or is it just a coincidence?
-
Does anybody know what kit is shown @ 5:08?...thanks in advanced!

But if the modeler painted the model with flat paint, then the decals will rest on a finish with little peaks on it. The decal will not rest flat on the surface.
Most modelers I know would apply a gloss coat on the model, apply the decals then apply a flat coat.

@mrblujet To avoid air getting trapped under the decal! -It looks bad with decals having a "crystaline" shine....It´s just as bad as having clear parts with bubbles in them!!!

Why didn't this guy paint the model with a gloss-finish before applying the decals?
