Just followed your video and after rebooting my system it now freezes upon loading my desktop ;( HELP pls!

To get Plymouth to play well with the boot splash, you need to force Ubuntu to load up the driver before.
Do this in a terminal.
sudo su
echo FRAMEBUFFER=y > /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/sp
lash update-initramfs -u
exit

You don't need to blacklist these things when enabling the nvidia proprietary driver.

Hi, I'm glad I stumbled across this video. Us noobs really do appreciate tutorials like this. I've found a black screen on startup with my Ubuntu 10.04 , it happens after I try to install the nvidia drivers using "System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers". Do you think it's because of that nouveau thing? I want to try it the way you suggested, but it's just that everytime I've tried it so far, I've ended up having to re-install the OS. Is it plausible this could be my problem?

ahhh this was one of my first videos hehehe. hence the bad quality etc...
yeah installing Nvidia does it... So what happens exactly? Just a black screen during boot? and then it get's to the Login screen ok? and then into the desktop?

@Linux4UnMe Nah actually it's worse than that. The splash screen never comes up, and you never see the login screen or the desktop - it's all black screen. The only button that responds is the physical power off button on the laptop. Same thing happens starting it in recovery mode; i can't even get a console. It turns into a paperweight. At the moment i'm just not bothering with Nvidia drivers at all (which is a shame- i was looking forward to having a fully-functional Celestia on a netbook).

that is strange.... I never had it that bad... so I assume you can't get into a tty console by pressing "ctrl/alt/Fkeys" ??? geez that is fuked lol. Why are you using Ubuntu 10.04 anyways? because it is lts? i'de say screw it...Have you tried LInuxMint 11? it freaking Rocks... be interesting to see if it happens on that :o
