great video, one question though did you push the transducer to the floor of kayak or just suspend it in the goop?? as i want to fit transducer to my yak but unsure as have seen vids showing it pushed to the floor.

Good question! After we put the "pool of goop" down we rock the transudcer back and forth sloooowly to work out any bubbles and get it seated. If it's not in direct contact with the hull it's ok just so long as there are no air bubbles between it and the hull.

i bought the garmin 441s gps/fishfinder.... do you think it's a bit much and should i have gone smaller? i'm also wondering if i can use the hobie installation kit with this finder

The insulation displacement connectors being used would possibly be more reliable if the tinned ends of both leads were trimmed off first. Less risk of cutting strands and there aren't many to start with.

Also I'd strain relief that junction or you are putting any mechanical load (may even just be vibration in transport of the yak) onto those thin wires. Double them back and secure them to the top of the battery holder with a zip tie or something similar but put the mech load on main cable.

The transducer is already "potted" into a plastic case by the manufacturer. You didn't think that lovely slippery shaped case you screw on the transom of a stink boat was the electronics?? It's not, just a case. The actual electronics of transducer doesn't know if the case it is in is 5mm thick or 15mm thick as long as there's no air bubbles you're all good.

Yes. It comes as a set of two. Part number 72021011 SPARE TRANSDUCER PAD from your hobie dealer. The best way to mount the transducer is apply the marine goop to the bottom of the transducer NOT in the bottom of the boat. This way there is just a small point in the bottom hanging down to contact first and spreading out as you press it down. A weight can be placed on top to make the goop thinner and flow it out from the center and toward the edges.
