this is not abhayamba "navavaranam" rather its another group of "vibhakti" krithis by MD

Unusual song by Sri Dikshitar - combining Tamil, Telugu and Sanskrit! A touching one and rendered so soulfully by Vijay Shiva - thank you!

furthermore, Mangalams r not only sung in Madhyamavati. the most famous mangalam of all, Sadguru Tyagaraja's "Nee Naama Rupamulaku" (from His Opera "Prahlada Bhakti Vijayamu") is in Saurashtram. Mangalams r also sung in Shurutti, Sri & Manirang. all these ragas r considered auspicious for different reasons

also the raga lakshanas of Sri & Madhyamavati differ quite a lot. 1.Sri sports the Dhaivatam & Gandharam in the Avarohana krama, which Madhyamavati expressly lacks. 2.unlike the Rishabham & Nishadam in Madhyamavati which have strong Kampita Gamakam most of the time, the Rishabham & Nishadam in Sri r comparitively flat and the Rishabham is especially elongated, just touching the Gandharam, giving an almost magical effect

yes i realised later that u had written Madhyamavati for the Mangalam which ensues; but since its just 2 small lines i dont there was any need to expressly state the raga. it does seem a bit misleading; like as if the song itself can be sung in Sri or Madhyamavati

great kirti, melodious voice.

talam : adi
this song is not in Madhyamavati. it is only in Sri ragam. also the language of the composition is not just Tamil. this is a Manipravalam, i.e. a composition in more than one language. it has the 1st part of every stanza in Telugu and the 2nd part in Tamil; for eg: "Sri Abhayamba ninnu chintinchina vaariki" is in Telugu & "...chindai kavalai ellaam theerumamma" is in Tamil. yet the continuity of meaning is maintained

Thanks for the info. I have amended the language info in the description. As for ragams, the end of this song has been merged with the mangalam which is in madhyamavati (which is also the traditional ragam for mangalams). As such, sri and madhyamavati are similar.
