Wow..you are bigger fan than I am! Great! Can you answer a question I have always had about "Zor and Zam? Why was it included on the first "Monkees Greatest Hits" Package? (Colgems COS-115)

@AarHan3 I live in the UK and in 1997 many Monkees episodes were shown on UK tv. I remember recording this episode during the summer of that year. The song used in this clip was 'I'll be back up on my feet'.
-
@Antifrodis "Take a chance on me". The first two lines are identical as well as the bass and chords throughought. Bet you all didn't know that?

Newsflash, Aug.8, 2011:
Remaining dates for 45th Anniv. tour cancelled.
Issued statement reads due to "..irreconciliable differences...We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued support of The Monkees."

I remember watching this clip.
I love this clip very much! (:

Wasn't a different song over this little number in the original episode?
-
@moxie96 Oh yeah I heard that somewhere too cool thanks :)
-
@Antifrodis Oh, you said the same thing that I did. I know that "Talking To The Wall" was the B-side of that 1969 single, and was also produced by Mike. I haven't heard the single, but I'd like to. I like both Monkees versions of this. What a versatile song!

Davy Jones co-wrote this song with Bill Chadwick- who released his own version of the song in late1969. That version was produced by Michael Nesmith, who was producing tracks for Dot Records at the time. Speaking of Mike, I read somewhere that he was on a bad trip when they shot the hula-skirt part. I wonder if that was around the time he wrote "Daily Nightly". ;-)

@ardalsgirl no the song "ill be back upon my feet" is the original track. This song was there durring the saturday morning syndication, newer songs were placed over certain episodes footage to promote the latest single the monkees had out this one is likely 1969 after peter tork left the band. The series ended in march 1968

Never seen the "syndicated" versions with some of their more obscure songs used instead of their bigger hits... Who was the "Wizard Glick" that chose the tunes, lol?

So who wrote this? Sounds a bit like Nillson but I could say Billy Preston. Never heard this before. Interesting.

I believe it was written by Bill Chadwick (a friend of Nesmith's) and Davy Jones. I do question Davy's writing credits at times, but Bill Chadwick did release this song as a Nesmith produced single and it's not a bad version in it's own right. Chadwick wrote several other songs for the Monkees as well. Zor and Zam, Time and Time Again, as well as "Talking To the Wall" for Nesmith's 4th solo album.

That's great - the tuxedo dancing scenes are an homage to "Your Mother Should Know" from the "Magical Mystery Tour" video

Actually the tuxedo scenes here were shot in 1966, a year before Magical Mystery Tour. This was a 1969 rerun of an episode from 1966. Definite similarities. Maybe the Fab Four saw this and borrowed from the Monkees!

Wow, is this song originalley what they used? Now a days in this episode, this part always plays ''I'll be back upon my feet'' in the backround.

This is the song they used when the show was rerun in the late 60's/early 70's. It was their practice (when the Monkees were STILL a group) to replace the old songs with new ones when episodes were rerun to help sell the Monkees' latest albums. Oddly enough, songs like this one were never released until many years later.
