Valkyries were messengers and servants, kind of like the angels of the christian mythology. Where does this idea of fighting valkyries come from?

Val = battleground, kårer= choosers,

Valkyries are Odin's servants. Their job is to 'choose' the able fallen warriors on the 'battleground'. Also to bring Odin's army mead until Ragnarok.

But great movie anyway :)
