This is our floor in our dream house we just built. The floor salesman from Floor Experts said this is a classy floor. I think it looks like factory seconds. I hate to even look at it. It has marks all over it that look like scuff marks. And the company says this is what it is suppose to look like! If I was made aware of these marks in the first place, I wouldn't have bought them.

  • Absolutely not. I was under a false impression. Absolutely no dishonesty from my end.

  • I have contacted the manufacturer and there seems to be some confusion. They have not produce formica flooring for some time and a new group has taken over the production. Post an apology for what? For not liking the way my floors look? Never. I am going to get to the bottom of this $10,000.00 + mistake.

  • I have sold a few hundred laminate floors and have never seen or heard of 'chatter marks' from a customer or a company representative.

The person installing your floor should have noted these marks and alerted you to them early in the installation.

Otherwise, these are a defect in manufacturing (although most warranties cover wear, fade, stain, etc. problems) and you should deal with Formica again on a higher level.

  • I did what you suggested and I emailed my video to the North American company and in the last 2 days I have received over 500 identical automated responses!!!! Grrrrr!! This company is pathetic!!

  • It looks as though it could be a wax residue on the floor boards. Chatter marks refers to floor sanding and this should not be done of laminate floors. When using a laminate floor cleaner is there any resistance when cleaning or does this glide over the marks? What kind of finish is the floor?

  • This is the way they are suppose to look like. You can not wax, sand or cover laminate flooring. The company that installed the floors said there is absolutely nothing I can do to change the appearance. The representative for Formica came to my house to look at the floor. He said their is absolutely nothing they can do to make it better. When I asked him if he liked the appearance of the floor and he said "no, it looks horrible, I would never buy this for my own home".

  • @CEUCompass 10k$? ouch...for that price u coudl have gotten real wood flooring..high end too laminate flooring can be done for as little as 2k$

  • Never buy or put in dark color wood floors. Any light smudge is stand out on the floor. Go with lighter or natural brown wood coloring.

  • Thanks for the video. I will stay away from this company as well. Anytime anyone has a problem with a product or service, please make a video of it so you can warn other. Sounds like a manufacturer's defect. The company that installed this product probably got a great deal on this floor and he installed it on your floor. Seems like the installer is at fault. I'd like to see what the installer has to say and what they will do to solve this problem.

  • was there any left over pcs that were not installed ? if so did they have the same marks ? looks to me that this is either a factory defect, or your installer did this putting them in . did you watch the install ? was he banging on them to put them in ? go buy another box and see if they have the same marks. I agree it looks terible its not right thats for sure.

  • I installed Formica Quintessa Hard Maple flooring in my basement. It is well made and very easy to install. I needed no mallets or glue to assemble the floor. Only a good saw blade to cut to length. Also, Quintessa has beveled edges to appear as large individual planks. I don't see any cupping. That is the way it is manufactured. Sorry you don't like how it looks but I love ours.

  • Take responsibility for your decisions. YOU are pathetic!!

  • im from newbrunswick canada to :D , have you heard of a place called perth-andover ?

  • I know just the marks you are talking about. I just brought home the Quintessa Valhalla Birch sample. In the store you could not see the marks. The floor was beautiful. However, when I placed the sample on the floor at home, I immediately saw the marks. They are part of the design. My wife said the same thing as you-"who would ever want that?"

This very problem could have happened to us. All laminate does NOT look like this. I'm sorry it happened to you.

  • I just bought the same Laminate in lighter color, which is by the way called Quintessa. I saw those (chatter) marks before buying, but decided to buy anyway because I was impressed by the quality ( made in Germany not in China.)

Your floor is a very dark color and the sunlight does not make it look very good ... in a subdued lighting it might look decent...

Also the planks might look better if installed the opposite way...

I installed mine -look good.. wish did not have marks; but ...

  • Is there any way you can get ahold of the sample you're contractor showed you? If the marks aren't evident on the sample, then you've got something to go on.
