  • Phelps isn't trying to give a purely operatic performance here. He's performing an opera classic with his indelible pop twist, no doubt doing so intentionally. So don't judge it against Pavarotti. If you do that you're missing the point. An intentional mixing of genres (in this case opera and pop) can be a truly unique experience when done with class, and that is exactly what David Phelps pulls off so beautifully.

  • Hes actually classically trained..he went to school for it

Phelps, is not really singing "Pop" it sounds more like some kind of "lounge style' with excessive an excessive breathy quality. It just is not a good interpretation any way one wants to look at it. I can also say there are times when Opera singers sing certain songs they should have left alone, but this version on this aria, which is "heroic", seems way below what should have been done.

  • Truth is David is a classicly trained singer who took artistic license. Trust me, he can sing it traditionally. I think its nice to hear this interpretation. He uses his training and applies it to a pop vocal, which is just his style, but I assure you I have heard this man belt arias in a classical voice that would blow your mind.

  • Music is about expressing a thought, not perfecting a mechanism to someone's particular specifications. Phelps has an incredible instrument, and uses it for his own personal expression of a classic. He is twice the musician of other "crossover" singers, and completely humble about it. Were opera to develop in the age of amplified sounds, this is quite possibly what it would have been like.

  • @GilGalad236 lmao straining???? david sings at Eb5 easily. why would he be straining at a high C? his style of singing is great. who would want to be a opera singer where you can only sing classical music. they will sound horrible singing any different type of music and that sucks they have no versatility. david was wise and took the training and applied it to praise the Lord and it was the best decision he ever made .

  • To hear a better version, do a YouTube search for: Marc Martel Nessun Dorma

  • can't recall ever hearing a better voice so seriously *%@& up a better piece of music

  • Fantastic-loved it!! Don't listen to the grumpy comments, David!

  • I LOVE David Phelp's voice!!! And am a huge fan of his. I first heard him on TBN and quickly had to get my hands on his music!! This was about 3 years ago, and I got a few of his CD's for Christmas gifts!

When are you coming to the Ft. Laurderdale area David? Would love to see/hear you in person!! GBU!!!
