WM Cardiac Tumor Resection (Angiosarcoma)

This is a highlight reel from a Right Atrial Cardiac Tumor resection performed by Dr. Michael Reardon at The Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center of the Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX on 12/22/09.

The surgery took 3-4 hours and 100% of the tumor was removed with clean margins (at about 1:35 you see him removing more tissue to get clean margins).

I am a 31 year old male that was diagnosed with primary Cardiac Angiosarcoma in October 2008. The disease is metastatic, other sites include sternum, T4 vertebrae and T12 rib.

Thank you! I hope everything works out for your brother. Mine is metastatic and has spread to my spine, ribs and sternum. There hasn't been any new growth in about 15 months but I've also been on chemo that entire time so we aren't calling it remission yet but I am hoping to soon.

@wmccaffr I feel you sir, I had to get surgury to remove a tumor around my heart when I was 18, I understand the pain. Keep at this sir and know your not alone. Wheather people have benign or malignant know that your not alone :-)

Thank you! It's a shame that there isn't much awareness about Angiosarcoma, until one has been diagnosed for it. Hopefully, 2010 will be a year that we find a better cure/treatment system for this cancer. Good luck with everything.
