The four astronauts for the final space shuttle mission arrived on July 4 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla., for their prelaunch preparations. Liftoff of shuttle Atlantis' STS-135 mission to the International Space Station is scheduled for 11:26 a.m. on July 8. After arriving at Kennedy's Shuttle Landing Facility, Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim addressed media in attendance. The crew will deliver to the station the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module filled with supplies and spare parts that will sustain station operations once the shuttles are retired following this mission.

  • 1:00 - A GUN !?!?

    WHAT THE HELL ?

THEY EXPECTING BIN LADEN TO SHOW UP OR SOMETHING ???

  • Can't believe it has come to this. You could understand retiring the shuttles if there was a viable replacement, but there's not. Reliance on private industry will leave important science sitting firmly on the ground - unless there is money to be made from it, it just wont go up. Hopefully other countries will continue pushing humanity out to new frontiers but it looks sadly like the USA will be out of the action for quite some time to come.

    1. Those are T-38s not fighters and the commander and pilot need flight time so combining travel and training seems reasonable

    2. An assault rifle does not mean SWAT, he is typical ground security to keep yahoos like you from hurting yourself and others.

    3. How bout 6 guys, 2 to chock and 1 to guide them in. Doesn't surprise me you overexaggerated though.

NASA will always be about science and if you don't like how much $ they spend go look at the welfare slice of a govt pie chart

  • @dodgechallenger2008

Nah... I just thought those tiny flags looked cute XD

  • @ZeroC0ol1989 I guess you laugh at the decline of America...It's entirely our (America's) fault though. That's the last time that this will ever happen. Jobs are going to be outsourced to Russia. That also means that tourism is going to go down and people are going to loose jobs. Even the little Mom and Pop diners will suffer and the public school system will loose funding due to less money to tax...something to giggle about I guess. Ha...

  • @th1nk4once This is the final SHUTTLE mission for nasa they will be retiring it after this launch, not the end of space exploration.

  • @BoomlalaMetrotab

Enjoy...watch as much of the final flight as you possibly can :)

  • I wish good luck to the crew. Too bad this will be the first and last space shuttle launch I'll be able to follow.

  • These men and women are the luckiest, most badass people in the world right now.

I wish them all the best on this historic mission.
