a 12/60 NST? dude thats what i had! I unpotted it and removed the shunts and now i get 5 ft sparks!
im 15 too :D

:(. I am poor as hell. That is cause i am 15 :P. PLZ SAY NOTHING ABOUT MY AGE. It is rather thin, aint it? Oh well, i am going to get some good capacitors and then i will get some copper. I am about to start making a new small tesla coil(2 inch secondary, my old 6kv 30ma nst, as my new 12kv 60 ma nst is on the big(er) coil.

Make a good primary for that thing and i reckon you could get quite abit more output power ;)

Thats awesome man. I'm young too (22) and I get into high voltage stuff.
You need the vacuum because the spark gap needs to be cleared of the gases or it won't fire right, and knocks off the tuning of your coil.
You are getting pretty good sparks without a toroid. Put a toroid on there and you will be amazed how much better it will do.
I'm sure you've done all this already, Lol. I just wanted to leave some positive feedback and say stick with it.

Hehe thanks. I know ALOT more about tesla coils now. The reason for the tiny sparks was because the secondary was shorted in about 4 places, and that is what i could see. There are definitely more, but i am going to keep it for using in sstc's. The shorted windings are higher on the coil, so they wont matter that much, considering the base of the coil is like a transformer and the top is the resonator. Now making a somewhat larger coil, running with one MOT.

looks nice, try adding a toroid.

Well, i have completely given this one up :P. I no longer have my CDE caps for the nst, gave 10 away(100 bucks damnit). I am making a new one, powered by one mot. It will be resonant charging, using a voltage quadrupler, a new secondary, and an arsg. Hoping for about 30" sparks, at up to 400-600bps since it is dc. No need for srsg, and bps can be very high. Also, since it is going to used really low capacitance, capacitors will be cheap. Ima use 10 .15uf cde caps in series. 15nf, 20kvdc. NICE :P

LOL never mind about your age, i'm only 14 myself ; ) I am intending to build a TC some time soon, hopefully.

I noticed. I am arcstarter of 4hv :). You know, the one asking you if you need a source of wire and stuff. I have a new nst 12kv 60ma and i am going to go ahead and use party cup capacitors..Just bought a new capacitance meter to find how many caps i will need.
