NANODOTS Tutorial #9: Stellated Icosidodecahedron

This ones pretty awesome. I had a video of this end product up a while ago and finally got around to making a tutorial video for it (as per several requests).

Its basically just a dodecahedron, only made from shapes a little cooler than just a pentagon. No I'm not sure this is the real name for it, but its the closest I can think of.

Balls Used:
Each rhombus = 1+ 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 25
60 rhombuses = 60 x 25 = 1500
Total = 1500

there is another way to do this that i have found. you take a pentagon and turn it into a star by butting extra magnets on the sides that decrease in number by one every row and sticj 12 of those together.

that way definitely does work and its great if you don't have this many magnets but I like the look of this one better. The individual rhombi look pretty cool imo

From what I've found Googling, this is a rhombic hexecontahedron, a rhombic triacontahedron stellation.
