@TheRomanticDarkness The Christian Faith was created by the Church, not the Scriptures.
-
@mishakol129 I would actually say that was more the "catholic" (universal by meaning) church and that was awesome. But then they decided to rebel against the scriptures....
Just like Martin Luther I state you may convince me by reason and scripture but once again your traditions (outside of scripture) are but sanitary tissue to me...
Preach from the scriptures and I will "Amen!" Tell me of your Pharisee traditions and hear me laugh....
-
@TheRomanticDarkness You wouldn't have the Lord's words without the Orthodox Church because it was its own Church Fathers who put the New Testament together.

@mishakol129 Once again I defer to the pharisees who "made void the Word of God BY THERE OWN TRADITIONS." The Lord's words not mine. Christ Himself defered to "Mose and the Prophets and Psalms" for all He taught. NEVER to the Pharisees (the Church).
Sola Scripture is as Biblical as the Trinity. Like it the doctrine is not named but is said over and over again.
In the OT the "church" turned from God to worship Baal and did not repent until they: FOUND THE BOOKS OF MOSES!
So no...

@MrDavis2013 It is the Church which is the "Ground and pillar of the Truth" (1 TImothy 3:15), not the Bible or any other Protestant / Roman Catholic sect.
It was the Orthodox Church itself which put together the Bible.
The doctrine of "Sola Scriptura" is not a biblical teaching, nowhere in the Bible is Sola Scriptura taught, not even by the Apostles. Though in the Timothy letter Paul says that Scripture is "profitable", he does not state that it is the "Ground and pillar of the Truth" 1 Tim 3:15
-
@TheRomanticDarkness Sola Scriptura is not even a Biblical teaching. The teaching of the Apostle Paul is the that Church is the "Ground and Pillar of the Truth" (1 Timothy 3:15), not the Bible because the Bible did not even exist in his time. The Old Testament itself was very rare, nobody had an individual copy because they were extremely expensive. So it is not the Bible that is the holder of the Truth but the Church.

@mishakol129 One thing to say to you on that note:
Sola Scripture.
I am an Orthodox Christian by it's definition. The "Orthodox" you speak of IS NOT. You know about the Pharisees? Yeah. Think about them a minute and compare your sect.
Neither add nor subtract from the Word of God. Man's "religious" traditions are worth less than toilet paper to me. I could care less about traditions. My Lord feels the same way. Once again: SOLA SCRIPTURE.

Since the 5th century (St. Augustine actually coined the phrase) So if you want to get technical about it, the apostolic church was the "original" church, and the Catholics, Orthodox, and we protestant Christians are all just spin offs of the Apostolic tradition.
-
@mishakol129 While "Orthodox" is a title that delineates a sect of Christianity (the second largest sect, btw), I have to disagree with your assertion that you belong to the "original" church. I would argue that if you have faith in Christ's blood and on his name for salvation, you are a part of the "original" church. Just allow me to remind you, the Great Schism (where orthodoxy became a title) happened in 1056 A.D. The word "Catholic" in reference to the Roman Church has been in effect

@28crazycharlie My bad man. No, division is not good but we all must come into the unity of the Faith like St Paul said in Ephesians 4. Many people are divided and its because there is not one Faith or baptism but many faiths and many doctrines... I myself am an Orthodox Christian, I belong to the original church. Many Christians today cannot call themselves Orthodox Christians because they are not. To be an Orthodox Christian means to hold the true Faith of Christ and the inheritance of Gospel.
Great things, love this. Real Talk.
