  • Yeah, let's not have a ventriloquist on the show ever again, shall we?

  • I'll call this one a noble failure. The idea of having a ventriloquist on QI is just interesting enough to have been worth trying. Unfortunately, the chemistry just didn't work. Never heard of her before, but Nina seems perfectly likable and she made me laugh more than a number of one-off guests in the show's history. So there's that. But if they invite her back, she oughta lose the puppet.

  • I have to agree with a few posters - She is obviously a very talented ventriloquist. Although, this might not have been the best forum for that kind of art. I really felt uncomfortable for her in a few scenes and it took something away from that particular episode in my opinion.

  • bill bailey is wearing a naruto shirt? you what? my brain just melted out of one ear

  • BILL BAIlEYS SHIRT!

  • @Ahnyks That's true. But I also think Nina did alright for herself here. While I wouldn't bet money that she's the next Sandi Toksvig, it's also true that a lot of classic QI panelists have relatively low-key first appearances. I guess my opinion is that ventriloquism doesn't seem to work with the format, but Nina seemed witty/interesting enough that, if QI wanted to give her one more shot without the puppet, I'd be happy to see it. (Assuming she'd even want to perform that way.)

  • @kriswright The thing about ventriloquists is they rarely can do improv. They almost always follow a skit that they've spent months perfecting.

  • I'm really surprised at all the hate for Nina in the comments. I honestly didn't think that she was that bad. I really feel like I was watching a different show to everyone else!

  • Surely the best thing about being a ventriloquist is that you can laugh at your own jokes without seeming arrogant!

Props for Stephen for treating Granny as a sentient being.

  • Love, love, love Qi. Also love, love HIGNFY. Anyone heard if anyone's being brave enough to upload it yet?!

  • Good try, but adding a ventriloquist to a successful tried and tested format just didn't work... :/

  • hmmm...I like Nina Conti, but there are two comedy formats that rarely work on a panel show: One-Liner stand ups and Ventriloquism. Whenever a comedian uses either, everyone has to stop for their bit. It detracts from the flow of the show
