Here is my homemade bracket and crank trigger on my 1965 Plymouth Barracuda 225 slant six. Sorry about the quality, it is my first time making a video for YouTube.

I am using a single power relay for the entire ignition system and megasquirt. The compact ND alternator is visible as well. The front pulley on the crank was removed for the trigger wheel.
The software on the computer is Megasquirt n' Spark Extras.
There is some room for cleaning up the wiring. :)

Advantages- no more points, coil, or ballast resistor. Timing is set by serial port on the computer, and includes a 3D map. It starts really easily, even with an old carb.

  • I am using a 36-1 tooth (so 35 teeth, with one gap, where ole number 36 should be).

Good luck on your build. I would love to see a squirted old hemi.

  • Awesome video How much did this cost you in parts? Do you have fuel injection or just ignition ?

  • Very Cool

  • I have the Megasquirt V3 system. The wiring diagram shows the use of a Hall sensor to pick up RPM and crank position. I have a Joe Hunt mag converted to Pertronix ignition. It has two wires, one is hot and the other is for the tach. Perhaps I can use the tack wire as the RPM sensor since it is coming from the Hall type sensor. I did send a request as a friend. Am hoping someone out there can give me a little support with this system. Thank you, Bill

  • I have the Megasquirt V3 and according to the wiring diagram on their site, the trigger is a Hall sensor or equivelent. I have a Joe Hunt mag converted to Pertronix ignition. One wire from the mag is for a tach. Will try using that one first before building a wheel. Did you lock the advance in your distributor or have you elliminated the distributor? Bill

  • How many teeth are on the wheel? I'd like to make one for my old Desoto V-8 but don't know how many teeth to put on it. Also is there a missing tooth? Bill
