After watching the SoulTrain doc today at Chicago's cultural center, there was a panel discussion with 4 Chicago music luminaries who spoke about the history of Soul Train. There was a lot of discussion about how the tight knit Chicago music scene made ST possible. Because Bobby appeared on the first nationally broadcasted ST and because he is a fairly well known singer in town, he was introduced and said he was welcome to speak during the Q&A. He did just that.

Instead of sharing fond memories, he took 5 minutes telling us how pissed he was that he wasn't asked to sing at the Soul Train gala coming up in Sept.
He said because he sang at the first one, he should play at the 40th anniversary. I don't think Bobby understands that this event is not a re-enactment of that first show.

The acts performing at the gala are all the big names that Soul Train helped make huge stars and that helped Soul Train become so popular. Bobby doesn't come near this group in terms of popularity. (Having a recent #1 steppers cut doesn't count and has nothing to do with Soul Train) Also, I don't think Bobby understands this event is NOT ABOUT HIM. It's about Soul Train.

Bobby Hutton...A true soul man

The whole set was, as one would expect from Mr Hutton outstanding. A class act without a doubt.

Excellent!!! Bobby Hutton is a really GREAT singer.

Mel Britt.......awesome track! Pure class and a great choice.

Not depressing at all.
I want Mel Britt - 'She'll come running back to me' playing at mine.
And the missus HAS BEEN TOLD !!!
I would prefer it to be a live performance ...
But a flight from Chicago to get to The Holy Trinity Church in Washington (UK) might be pushing it a bit much.

My all time favorite and my finisher when I ran Jaspers York in the early 80's.
Never tired of playing this..fan bloody tastic!
