Erected in 1957, the original Lehigh River and Pohopoco Creek bridges are rapidly deteriorating as they have extended beyond their 50 year design life. Urban Engineers provided construction management for the four new bridges to replace the original structures on I-476 in Carbon County, PA. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission was Urban's client for this $101.6 million project. The new bridges were completed on schedule, while maintaining four lanes of traffic during construction. The Lehigh River bridges are 75' high and over 1,500' in length. The Pohopoco Creek bridges are 120' feet high and 1,020 in length. More than 30,000 vehicles will travel these new bridges daily.
