A baby pygmy marmoset taking a good look around for the first time...Mico was hand reared at the Rare Species Conservatory Foundation, www.rarespecies.org, because his mother died giving birth to him. He is now grown up and housed in a large, outdoor enclosure with a female marmoset named Trixie. He is not a pet, and is part of a cpative breeding program for pygmy marmosets, which are threatened in the wild.

You can "friend" Mico on Facebook! Look for Mico MightyMarmoset! He also has his own clothing and accessory line at www.zazzle.com/rarespec. Sales proceeds support wildlife conservation!

  • How much do these little guys cost and what is their upkeep? Are they high maintenance? Do they have aggression problems? Not like this little guy could do much harm though.

  • Thank you for writing! We (RSCF) are a wildlife conservation organization. We do not sell or advocate widlife as pets. We raised this baby because his mother died giving birth. He is now in a large exhibit with a female and we hope he will start a new family group. Small primates like pygmies should NEVER be kept as pets--instead, we suggest that you support organizations working to protect and preserve them where they belong--IN THE WILD.

  • Awwww I wAnt

  • @MagistraY Why do you need to use the word savages? Those people had lived that way for thousands of years without threatening these species' with extinction. Loss of habitat due to 'progess' is what threatenens these species, What they do is no different from those who hunt game in Western countries - are they savages too? This isn't a political issue, it's a survival issue. And it seems some people care more about the survival of animals than people.

  • @njnolan1 that was directed at people who want monkeys as pets not at your wildlife rescue.

  • @rarespec that's no fun:P Jk. Go rescue cats and dogs, there are millions of those who need homes.

  • They are wonderful pets, better a loved family member than an abused zoo exhibition. Most zoos and "organizations" are badly managed and poorly run, a marmoset recently died in a Tennessee zoo of starvation. Maybe if he'd been privately owned he would have lived! most conservationist and "organizations" are out for money! it is PETA all over again and political correctness can kiss my grits!

  • ¡Oh! ¡Qué cosita más linda. Es tan tierno!

  • @MagistraY The only issue I have with doing so, is that I know that there's some dumbfuck owners out there who barely know shit about caring for such exotic pets and those animals will end up in sanctuaries like the one in the video.

  • It's the cutist thing ever I've want one for years !!:)

  • For all those bitching that these primates should neve be kept as pets I must assume you are out in the wild guarding habitats and protecting them from savages who like bushmeat, right?

What? You mean we should just let these animals suffer and become extinct for the sake of political correctness and antiquated notions of the sanctity of the wild?

    No way.

If the planet cannot be saved for the animals, save the animals instead.

  • awwww! he is just amazing! I can't stop watching his wee face lol!
