  • Layton never won the Nobel prize. He was nominated but never won.

  • Hi Barbara,

Don't know how often you read these. Malka loved meeting you at the Bar Mitzvah! I forgot how intelligent and creative you are. Let's stay in touch.

  • Barb - so good to hear your voice!! Have cassettes of you on KPFA - some of my treasures. In New Orleans now for awhile and miss the nights on KPFA of the likes of you and Joe Frank. Hope you are well. You are an inspiration!

  • Red Cloth Series: Ross McCague. A tribute to Layton on youtube.

  • he did not. he was nominated but lost to marquez. god, everyone knows that! read a fucking book for once you fuckin idiot.

  • The Tightrope Dancer is and forever will be one of my favorite books. Thank you for this wonderful post.

  • Thanks for your supportive comment Ken. I am reminded, now that you mention it, of his Nobel prize. My statement about Canada's laureate of poetry is strictly a personal assessment from someone who admired his work

    so very much.

  • Layton received the Nobel prize for literature did he not. Maybe that is what fruglescot is remembering.

  • Just to clarify, Canada has only had three official poet laureates: George Bowering, Pauline Michel, and John Steffler.

  • Layton was Canada's poet laureate.

I would love to hear Leonard's moving eulogy at Irving's funeral, once again.

Barbara, you were in the company of a genius

in Greece whether you knew it or not.
