On 11/21/09, I participated in the Living History Farms Run in Urbandale, Iowa. It's a 7-mile, extreme cross-country event with 7,500 participants from all over the US. We ran through cornfields and woods, crossed a (very cold) stream 8 times, crawled up mud banks, climbed near-vertical hills, scrambled over haystacks, and enjoyed the camaraderie of a vast array of like-minded crazies.

I ran this with my bud, Don Foltz and two of his relatives, Steve Reicks and Susie Busta. The only time we split up was when we lost Steve during a bio-break. This is why you see lots of them in the video - I was behind the camera.

The winner actually finished in less than 40 minutes, my time was just under 2 hours. But in an event like this, there is no time goal for 98% of us. The fun is the goal. And it was 100% accomplished!

  • Were you the guy with the video camera taped to your hat?

  • Nope, just carrying my point-and shoot and getting shots when I had the chance. Wish I'd captured the whole thing!!!
