Senator Karen Carter Peterson (D- New Orleans) on Courage

On personal privilege, Senator Peterson speaks about courage of conviction and core values in light of a possible pending Senate vote to overturn Governor Jindal's veto of the renewal of a 4-cent tax on tobacco products. The tobacco tax revenue funds State Healthcare services and helps to curtail demand for the deadly products. Jindal vetoed the 4-cent renewal despite the bill, HB591, passing both the Louisiana House and Senate by 2/3 majorities. Even with the 4-cent tax renewal, Louisiana would continue to have the second lowest tariff on tobacco products in the country.
