A few years ago, I had the privilege of visiting the pipe organs at Community of Christ headquarters. Dr. Jan Kraybill was absolutely wonderful and gave me a very thorough demonstration and organ case tour while I was there. Both instruments were wonderful, but the "Temple Organ" was my favorite!

This is Dr. Kraybill playing the 1st movement (Allegro) of Widor's Symphony #5 for Organ. I apologize for the shaky camera work, but at least the sound is very nice. I used a couple of AT 4041 mics recorded through a Mackie mixer to a DAT deck. Feel free to ask questions and leave comments!

  • Listened (yet again) only with new headphones this time and was amazed by hearing much more of the true sound. Could easily have been one of the larger European organs/cathedrals. This is by far the BEST organ video I've discovered on YouTube. May we have more, please?

  • @mawaby59 Just uploaded the video of Dr. Kraybill giving a tour of stops. Check it out!

  • Jan Kraybill really is amazing. There are so many great organist out there but Kraybill really is in a class of her own! I can not wait until November 6 2009 when Jan plays the rectal from the dedication of the Auditorium form 1959!!!. It will be an amazing night. One of great music and first rate musicianship!!! Thanks to Jan for sharing her amazing talent with Community of Christ!!!

  • Excellent playing of a wonderful organ! Thanks!!

  • The greatest Casavant ever?

  • Thank you for being one of the TINY minority of YT uploaders who actually bothers to give INFORM'ATION with your upload(s). Fabulous building; Fabulous organ; Fabulous playing; Fabulous LUSH but crystal-clear registrations!

  • @lancemgy

Very surprising sounds. I wish they would produce more formal demos for Youtube.

  • Jan Kraybill plays with such warmth and life! I take care of a small 1972 56 rank Casavant in Santa Barbara which has a Johannus console attached. The organist then was tired of the slamming noises of the combination in the original console and lack of pistons. What Emma Lu Deimer wants, she gets! ;)

  • @pohsiBRD The acoustics in the building are ,,, well,,, something! After construction corrections needed to be made to minimize the echo. As I recall many sound absorbing boards had to be installed. On the flip side many said the ongoing echo was "the whisper of God).

  • The acoustics in the building are wonderful. To hear this organ in person is quite an experience!

  • I would have never recognized that as a Casavant console! They've changed their style drastically over the years. Organ sounds great though!

  • Nice one Lance. What happened to the name 'TVLance'? haha

Did you get to play her organ (snickers) any?
