Former Interrogator Rebukes Cheney for Torture Speech

Dick Cheney says that torturing detainees has saved American lives. That claim is patently false. Cheney's torture policy was directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds if not thousands of American servicemen and women.

Matthew Alexander was the senior military interrogator for the task force that tracked down Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq and, at the time, a higher priority target than Osama bin Laden. Mr. Alexander has personally conducted hundreds of interrogations and supervised over a thousand of them.

"Torture does not save lives. Torture costs us lives," Mr. Alexander said in an exclusive interview at Brave New Studios. "And the reason why is that our enemies use it, number one, as a recruiting tool...These same foreign fighters who came to Iraq to fight because of torture and abuse....literally cost us hundreds if not thousands of American lives."

I hate it when people say that we should torture because they torture our own people. You know what? We're supposed to be ABOVE that. We're supposed to REFUSE to stoop to their level.

We can't call ourselves the good guys and do bad guy things. Yes, Cheney should be put on trial for war crimes.

Not only is torture immoral and inefficient (a true interrogator will tell you that only a poor interrogator uses torture as a first resort), it is against the 3rd and 4th Geneva Conventions.

This subject is more intricate in detail then you realize. It is not a one step process that makes them mindless tools. It is a long and patient process that grooms people (commonly referred to as brainwashing). Besides that point, recruiting anyone to work with them is beneficial for their cause, even if they don’t blow themselves up. They need supply guys and MTI’s just like USA does. You have no knowledge of this subject.

It’s a 3rd world country and many of them don’t have the freedom to see what you do. When they do get news, it’s usually from these bad people, and the majority of it is lies that degrade westerners. im not supporting torture as a practice. but it doesnt make sense for foreign fighter to join a cause because they brothers where being abused/tortued by the US when that cause kills far more of their brothers then the US. it makes even less sense to pin in on torture or abuse.

the strategy of the terrorist is pretty obvious as you stated. but stating that people join in to that strategy to protect their fallow muslims makes no sense.

it is impossible to knw the true reason of why someone did what he did. He could have tolled someone something but there is no way of knwing if that was infact the reason.
