  • Perfecta,, sale perfecta.

  • @Frenchy3464, it has the typical andalusian syncopation that makes it so spanish. I don't agree with you. I like it in the range sung here, but there's no accounting for taste; so yours is as good as mine. I too love Berganza.

  • While Berganza's art is consummate and I love her voice... I prefer a more ethereal version of this lullaby in a higher tessiture/range.

The song has obviously been nourished by the long tradition of Arabo-Andalouse/Sepharade music, and the music brings to mind another well known lullaby dating from the 16th century, "Nani, nani", "La Mujer Enganada", (the deceived wife).

  • Nana is Spanish for lullaby. Like English, it is used both as a verb and as a noun. I think of this song more as a funeral dirge than a lullaby. Manuel de Falla's life was beset by death and suffering, and his family suffered the loss of his younger brother at the age of two. It is a beautiful song, eerie and chilling, but full of love.

  • Just listened to this gem again - a miniature by de Falla but non the less moving for that.

A supreme combination, Berganza and Estarellas...
