Big and Rich 8th of November Lyrics

Said Goodbye to his moma
As he left south dakota
To fight for the Red, White and Blue
He was 19 and green with a new M16
Just doin what he had to do

He was dropped in the jungle
Where the choppers would Rumble
With the smell of Napalm in the air
Then the sergeant said, Look up ahead

Like a dark, evil cloud
1200 came down
On him and 29 more
They fought for their lives
But most of them died
In the 173rd Airborne.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965, the 8th of November.

Now he's 58
And his ponytails gray
But the battle still plays in his head
He limps when he walks,
But he's strong when he talks
About the shrapnel they left in his leg.

He puts on a grey suit
Over his Airborne tattoo
And He ties it on one time a year
And remembers the fallen,
As he orders a tall one
And swallows it down with his tears.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965, the 8th of November.

Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around
There were few men left standing that day.

On the 8th of November,
The angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away.
With the fire raining down
And the Hell all around,
There were few men left standing that day.
Saw the eagle fly,
Through a clear, blue sky
1965, the 8th of November.

The 8th of November
The 8th of November

He said goodbye to his mamma
As he left South Dakota
To fight for the Red, White, and Blue.
He was nineteen and green with a new M-16
Just doing what he had to do.

  • I'm British but living in the US. Thank you to all that serve. I visited DC recently. So many names on the Vietnam memorial. So many brave soldiers gave their lives for our continued way of life. I just don't have the words to say thank you enough.

  • I had to turn it off before I started to cry

  • *playing the most beautiful song on the bagpipes I have ever heard, while tears ran down his face. That was the moment that I realized what a war can do to someone, and how they can feel. I will join the army out of respect and in memory of them. May all veterans rest in peace.

  • Last May I went with my school to Washington DC. In Arlington, I split off from the group to see my great uncle's grave. He was a South Pacific marine in WWII and was in the first waves of Iwo Jima and Oakanowa. He was wounded but did survive. So anyway, on the walk there I saw this big burly guy get off a motorcycle and start walking into a section. On the way back I saw something that I will never forget and still brings tears to my eyes. That big burly guy was in the middle of some graves pl

  • I've only heard this song a few times but it's so inspiring to me that I know every single word
