"Eleanor Waltz". I composed this melody for Nigel and Susan Turner when I joined TURNER'S MUSICAL MERRY GO ROUND in 1983. (The address of Turner's was 'Queen Eleanor Vale, Northampton' -- thus the name of my composition). Soon afterwards, Nigel had the melody cut for the Verbeeck Street Organ - and it was played daily at the various T.M.M.G.R. functions over many years.

All of the the Turner's Street organs were recorded onto a Commercial Cassette by Bob Barrett of Grassmere Music (E.M.I.) - and I have been trying to trace an original copy of the recording for many years. However, my friend Ben Jordan came to the rescue when he recently furnished me with a CD copy of the original recording, Digitally re-mastered in 1992 by Sovereign Music of Birmingham.

Unfortunately, I do not have an actual Video of the original Verbeeck Organ playing 'Eleanor Waltz' at the moment. So, for the time being, I have produced this short film using 'General Street Organ' photographs which I have downloaded from the Internet. They are obviously 'Public Domain' pictures but if anybody recognises any particular photo, I will be pleased to give suitable credit!

The Sheet Music for Eleanor Waltz is available in my Music Book (24 John Walker Original Compositions) - please see my website: http://www.digitalorchestra.co.uk/albums-books/book1.html

Thank you for watching -- JOHN WALKER

  • Hi John, very nice, it's a pity we don't hear more from you these days. I remember meeting you at a concert you did at Llay British Legion, probably late 80's early 90's, and I had an HX3 at the time, and you gave me some software for it for my Atari computer, but never did get it to work right!

I have loads of your CD's and always enjoy listening to your music, have a listen to my Tyros 2 version of your Summer Song, let me know what you think.

    All the best

    Keith

  • @cheshire1uk Thanks for that Keith. I have checked out your channel and listened to Summer Song, an excellent arrangement. I did hear it when you first uploaded it but could not access Youtube at the time to comment. I've put that right now.

  • @johnaw1 Thanks for your belated reply John, it's a coincidence you commented today as I went to Llay British Legion last night to watch Harry Stoneham (excellent performance too) which is the first time I've been there since seeing you there. I did some more recordings of your songs sometime ago so I'll put them on Youtube too.

  • great pictures

  • Beautiful piece of music,John,i have always liked it! It suits the Verbeeck organ so well!

  • Lovely Pictures of Days gone by. The Eleanor Waltz is just a fantastic piece of music and so catchy! The Verbeeck organ at Turners started my interest in Verbeeck Organs, so much so, that I bullied my Dad into buying one!!! They have a very pleasant and distinctive sound.
