Presenting to you Freda Payne's distinct and eloquent vocal cover(recorded 1973/album"Reaching Out")of an all-time favorite hit song from"The Carpenters"made in 1971.The easy-listening Standards song"Rainy Days And Mondays"is a timeless masterpiece which propelled the late Karen Carpenter to super-stardom.It surely staked the claim of mainstream-hit through the 1970's,while it's now considered a prized-classic collectible record.Freda does this lovely song her way,not changing words or the basic theme, but putting her own vivid, graceful, soft style to it effectively!I've never heard it aired on radio or seen her perform it on TV or videos, but I really think it got missed big-time!Listen and judge for yourself...

  • Nice^^..,,,but Only Karen Carpenter can do this song GOOD and Beautiful to hear^^..

  • Uh huhh! That's what YOU think!

  • this version of

"days" stands ( in my mind ) in contrast to The Carpenters version. I always thought Karen put herself in the place of a little child who is having a bad day..Freda"s version is much more mature sounding, like a woman waiting for her man to come back home from a business trip (or something)

  • OK! Nice observation in regards to the contrasting styles between these 2 artists's performances of this song.I never thought of it from that perspective but now that you stated it you are right! Both Karen and Freda nail this song in their own distinct ways. It shows that art-form is at the heart of music as well as and maybe at times even more than a song script.Nice getting your intelligent viewpoint! I feel that this song by Freda Payne got passed up so it's good getting your take. Thanks!

  • Freda Payne Was Fine Yooo

  • Easy, Breezy, and just plain beautiful!

  • @yggeo i concur

  • @maceomaceo11 i agree. karen's touching voice gives the song a melancholy feel, and she doesn't put any gymnastics into it. nice arrangement, though.

  • There isnt anything miss Payne can't sing. LOOKS TO DIE FOR.

  • I agree, this is a "great" alternatvie...........Freda Payne is "AMAZING".

I'm going from song to song and I can't find ONE I don't like!!

  • This is a great alternative version of this song. I love freda payne! I wish someone would post "Shadows on the Wall" my favorite song of hers. great music!

  • Nice attempt, and I love Freda, but to me Karen Carpenter owns this song. Much the way Ms. Payne owns Band Of Gold.

  • Freda does some wonderful "re-imaginings" on classic songs such as this one...Her version of "The Way We Were" and "A Song for You" on her Payne & Pleasure album are masterpieces as well...I just love the new nuances that she finds...The slowed down section of this song is so full of depth and introspection! Wonderful!!

  • This version is horrible
