According to Tullio Serafin there were three vocal wonders: Enrico Caruso, Titta Ruffo and Rosa Ponselle.

  • According to Tullio Serafin there were three vocal wonders: Enrico Caruso, Titta Ruffo and Rosa Ponselle....but you forget Maria Callas!!

  • Ponselle once commented that she and Telva stayed together in this duet by giving each other the pulse through their clasped hands during the rubato sections.

  • I'm afraid Mr. spencophany has a hearing problem. This is undoubtedly the greatest Mira O Norma ever recorded. FULL STOP. Marion Telva MAY be critcized in parts but Rosa's singing is beyond reproach - even beyond words. Caballe was never in the same league, certainly not in this opera. If you don't like it, keep it to yourself. And if you wish to criticize, get some knowledge of the subject and listening experience before you do so.

  • This is absolutely horrid as a duet. i couldnt care less if Poselle was thought to be one of the greatest. Unu no know wat the hell unu sayin. check out caballe and verret for a perfect duet....the best harmony and euphonious blend.

  • This is perfection- including the conducting. Who was the conductor? And when was it recorded?

    Thank you for posting!

  • Exquisite performance, classic und absolutely perfect

  • Rosa Ponselle was unquestionably the greatest Norma who ever lived. This is not the best transfer (the one by Ward Marston is much better) but even thru these scratches one can hear a peerless artist. It is unfortunate that Callas has completely eclipsed Ponselle when it should be the other way around. (Note that Callas has over 66,000 hits for this same duet). I'm not saying that Callas wasn't a great Norma - she certainly was, but Ponselle was greater. Just listen to what she does with it.

  • @Elisabetta611 Indeed I do...

  • @kgarmaker123

    Do YOU have manners?? Geez!

  • FAbulous mezzo.. too. Ponselle, is so musical and so accurate in everything she sings.. pitch, tempo... I sure would have liked to have heard her live in this role.
