Yes, you can tell she is very concerned about her baby... I could tell that was what she as looking for before I even read the comments!
We had two females almost trample our new puppy to 'protect' their day-old crias.
Just the other day, I had a dam try to 'protect' her 'cria' (now old enough to have a baby of her own) from me while I tried to remove a strand of barbed wire that had attached itself to her. I hadn't been spit at in months... and then BAM.

@EvilParsnip247 Every other mom in the group will typically allow a trusted person to handle their baby even at birth and we don't need to separate them. This alpaca was born in South America so we figure she was not taken care of in the transport to the US. We've had a few stubborn alapcas but this alpaca is the only one where it becomes dangerous to handle her baby even for brief times.

I live on an alpaca farm and I've never found it necessary to separate the mom and the baby, to check the baby. The mom will let you, as long as your calm about it.
At least you didn't get spit on by one like my friend and I . . .

@Cammydgaf Not this time, but I've been gotten good twice. It pretty much ended whatever I was trying to do because it's time for a 30 minute shower.

@davidls11 She's basically a Yorkshire Terrier mixed with some other stuff.

@rockyct It was a joke about the alpaca. I honestly didn't notice the dog until now. But thanks. :)

@davidls11 lol, I wasn't sure but since there was a dog in the other pen I just took it to be serious.
