Dr. Brad Kahl communicates the use of CAL-101 in lymphoma treatments. The drug has been developed by a Seattle company Calistoga Pharmaceuticals. The drug targets something called PI3 kinase. Kinases are proteins, and in cancer cells proteins are functioning abnormally. And if you can shut down those abnormal proteins, sometimes you can cause those abnormal cancer cells to die. So CAL-101 is a drug that gets inside the cancer cells and shuts down a particular protein. And when it happens, for many patients, the cancer cells start to die.
