P-51 Mustangs

The Gathering of Mustangs & Legends
"The Final Roundup"
Rickenbacker International Airport
Columbus, Ohio
Sunday September 30, 2007

IN THIS VIDEO, watch as twenty P-51 Mustangs take off, form up into two different formations, and break to land. There was a massive 51-plane formation planned for Sunday, but it was cancelled as a result of the bad weather on Thursday, preventing a practice flight run from happening.

If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft or of airshows, interested in everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will be, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), and/or everything related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please check out Steve's Airshow World at www.stevesairshow.com .

  • Being at that show was one of the greatest memories of my life.

  • that was the first airshow i went to and its the best airshow anybody could go to.

  • They were originally going to put 51 birds in the air rather then forming the number "51", but weather cancelled their practice. What a sight, and sound that would have been......i cant believe it had been two years since then

  • I was there for the air show and it will be with me for a lifetime. The sound of those merlins flying overhead brought chills to this fan.

Added joy were the F22, F16, B2 and too numerous to mention other aircraft as well.

It was something that I was looking forward to and I was not disappointed in any way.

  • WOW amazing event! P51's were great warbirds and still are! I'm honestly jealous you got to see all those flying together, a blast from the past. The sound of that many P51's isn't heard much unless your a veteran of WWII

  • I have seen a picture of a P-51D with functioning guns. So I'm pretty sure theres a few out there, but only for demos and show.

  • geniune merlins were supercharged too ,two staged

  • The Packard Merlin was supercharged... hence a whistle note in the mix.

  • I'm afraid you're a bigger Merlin fan than I am. I wasn't aware there was a difference in sound. I assumed that they were under license from Rolls Royce and identical. I'd like to hear them side-by-side. One time a Mustang flew over my house while I was cutting the grass and I could tell it was a Mustang before I looked up. I suppose it could have been a Spitfire and I couldn't have told the difference (except for the fact there aren't many flying Spitfires out there).

  • Can you tell the difference between the Packard Merlin and the RR Merlin?

You should be able to and these are Packard Merlins.
