Ubuntu 8.04 running on the EEE PC 900 video as requested.

This is the big boy's Linux for those who were unsatisfied with the Fisher Price style Xandros software suite. Judging by its performance its no surprise Asus went for Xandros as this system pushes the EEE PC almost as hard as Vista did.

All the eye candy was turned up on this install so with the Xubuntu script and other optimisations, this OS should run even smoother.

I tried to show as many features and programs as possible in the 10 minute clip.

  • few questions: you stated "Xubuntu is optimized for netbooks" does this inquire that it would work with the 900 series?

other questions, do these work for 9.04:

    Ethernet

    Wireless: Yes

    Camera:

    ACPI 1:

    ACPI 2:

    ACPI 3:

Also did you have any problems during your install? I noticed in the video a clock frequency issue??

  • I had problems downloading Xubuntu so I gave up and never got to try it out. My understanding is that its optimised for the EEE PC and includes camera, wireless & bluetooth drivers. I was successful downloading Ubuntu 9.04 and its very fast. It found the wireless in an instant. I never got around to trying the camera or BT. The 900 series and Atom series cannot be compared. The 900mhz celeron does twice as many operations per clock cycle than the atom and arguably faster in some instances.

  • Hi, I have a eee pc 1000h and just installed ubuntu on it ( dualboot) now, i tried it yesterday, but the wireless connection doesnt work. Anyone know how it can work (like on xp, that you can choose your wireless internet )?

    Thanks

  • Wireless in 9.04 worked fine and was already installed and functioning after the first boot up. Are you still having probs? What wireless card do you have?

  • I miss some of the old graphics. :(

  • i have an Asus Eee pc 900 and would like to do this. could u send me the links and instructions to do this?

  • run debian with lxde and you'll get a noticeable performance difference, thats what i'm doing. sure it'll take a while to get it set up just right, but in the end, sacrifice some special programs and do some research and your netbook will perform like its been overclocked by 300mhz, and it only uses around 50mb of ram

  • ubuntu is great for porno

I also installed the regular version of ubuntu 9.04 on my eee.

Ya I've found it runs faster than before on everything except the video. Like before i could have video streaming off the internet and totem playing and it ran at a proper speed but now I can only really have one video thing playing at once or there's slowdown.

  • I couldnt get the netbook remix edition onto a DVD so I installed the regular version and boy is it faster and slicker than before. Even with all the eye candy turned up it runs smoothly.

  • I've uploaded a new dual boot installation guide and a demo with a commentary of 9.04. All in all, a very fast a user friendly update to 8.04.
