My Five Hundred Limited AWD with a CVT accelerating from 0-140 km/h...I stupidly took the video from the perspective of the tach

  • Duratec 35*** Sorry!

  • Nissan's CVT's can handle power upwards of 290hp. The ZF Batavia was chain driven so I'm sure it could have handled the power of the new duratec 30...It's just not appreciated by 95 percent of the people purchasing this class of vehicle...and to be honest, I would much rather have a better 6-speed auto rather than a CVT. I have a Fusion SEL 5-speed manual now. Much more pleasing haha!

  • Sure it isn't good to rev an engine at constant high rpm's but dohc motors such as the duratec 30 in my five hundred don't mind revving higher. I do agree entirely with the mundane acceleration. But the tradeoff is consistent and smooth acceleration. And Ford manages 24mpg with the 6-speed. I can't wait for the new Ecoboost motor...somewhat efficient....but undeniably powerful! Cheers!

  • The ZF Batavia CVT transmission on the Five Hundred's and Freestyle's were used to get the most out of the motor as well. Because of not having any shift points, the cvt transmission is able to keep rpm's lower at constant speeds (highway travel) and get the most efficient torque/horsepower under any driving situations. This video was posted not to showcase fuel economy. It was to show acceleration at full throttle.

  • DCT is better the they are the new standard for transmissions

  • I love these transmissions. Wish I had one.

  • @ghost1103 Nah bro

  • @ghost1103 CVTs have no gears, they're single speed tranny's

  • Ford canceled the CVT because it can't handle the torque from the new powerplant introduced in 2008. HP went from 202 to 265, just couldn't handle it.

A lot of people make the same remarks about the RPMs, but I put 180k miles on my car. I beat it every day in low gear, and I don't have any problems at all.

My friends and I call it the 'sherman tank' lol.

It's amazing to drive a 4000lb car that can go that fast. I can make it dance too.

  • does it ever shift gears
