  • Mmmm, I love this fruit. When we lived in Los Angeles, my kids (they were little then) brought some home from a friend and it was more like a candy to them. We have been eating it ever since. Whenever my local veggie market has them we usually grab a couple boxes. I have some of the seeds saved. I read somewhere that you can toast them, crack the shell and eat them. I also know that if you put the seed in water it becomes soft and can be peeled to expose the soft inside seed.

  • oh wow... thanks for the info. we already planted a few, so we shall see...maybe we can toast a few after our raw challenge :) fun fun! tamarinds are special. glad you have good memories of them with the kids!

  • hey no worries, glad you saw the comment eventually. yeah, california is amazing! i think canada takes the prize for having their shit together WAY beyond the U.S., but I am still grateful to live in this great state. give a ring if you happen into our area :) thanks!

  • Oh my gosh, I completely missed this comment. I'm sorry for the delay in my response. I feel the same way about California. I am hoping to visit someday soon. I have been thinking about moving there for many reasons. One of them being that I think living in a warmer climate will help reduce my carbon footprint. Thanks again! You are awesome! :)

  • no worries, we wil find her one day :)

  • She does have net access though and does check every few weeks..not sure why she never got back to you though. I'm sorry about that.

  • I know and I find it to be really rude but hey she told me she only makes it to her actual house like 2-3 times a YEAR at this point. Can you believe it? she is in the bay area so much selling and traveling back and forth around this area since she sells so well here. She must really be banking the bucks in the bay area lol

  • no we have not seen the lost boys of sudan (i might have, but dont think so)...will put that on our list. :) yeah, get some from andrea. she never contacted us. oh well, i am sure she is busy! we just wanted some durian and some other tropical yummies. :) one day... xoxox thanks johnny!

  • i am so glad you got that we were joking! my impersonation was based on the EXACT conversation i heard taking palce at a local health food market in town. i swear to god this girl talked just like that and did not care at all that her job was to ring up my produce. ha ha ha

  • You really psychoanalyzed this fruit! It's one i have not tackled yet. We do have it in season here from the tropical lady, Andrea. I haven't fancied the favor yet i need to try it directly from the pod/shell. Ps. I love that you include Latin names to fruits, thank you for this. I would have fun making a fruit shaker instrument with the seeds. Speaking of Sudan, have you seen The Lost Boys of Sudan?
